GENESIS FUELTECH AWARDED SECOND DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY RESEARCH GRANT

October 24, 2007

The US Department of Energy has announced that it is awarding Genesis Fueltech Inc. a Phase II grant to continue the development of new fabrication processes and structures for hydrogen purification membranes. Phase II grants are for, approximately, $750,000 over a two year period.

The title of the research project is “Membrane Structures For Hydrogen Separation.” This project is testing new architectures and fabrication processes for metallic membranes.

Genesis’ specific objective is to develop low cost membranes that can be used for the purification of hydrogen-rich gas streams and also used in hydrogen generator systems for the on-demand manufacture of ultra-pure hydrogen. Genesis membrane modules will substantially lower the manufacturing costs of fuel processors and hydrogen purification devices, while greatly improving their reliability and durability.

David DeVries, CTO of Genesis comments, “All indications are that we will be able to build membrane modules in all sizes, including large systems for processing industrial volumes of purified hydrogen. Our early Phase II work has yielded a purification module that has operated for a continuous 1,500 hours with no degradation in performance – in fact it just seems to keep getting better.”

Headquartered in Spokane, Washington, Genesis Fueltech Inc. is a world leader in the manufacture of high efficiency fuel processors and in the design of compact integrated methanol reforming fuel cell systems.
